ETSU Bilingual Journalism is dedicated to trends and topics affecting Northeast Tennessee’s Hispanic community. Begun in 1999 as a newspaper insert in the Erwin Record, the project has been published annually across the region with support from the Morristown Citizen Tribune, Rogersville Review, Mountain City Tomahawk, Johnson City Press, Kingsport Times-News, Bristol Herald Courier and Jonesborough Herald and Tribune. The Morristown Citizen Tribune sponsored the paper for three years, and the Erwin Record did so for two years.
In 2011, “El Nuevo Tennessean” was launched by the ETSU Language and Culture Resource Center, with a name that recognizes Spanish-speaking readers as “new Tennesseans.” Major support for the project comes from the ETSU Department of Communication, the Department of Literature and Language, and the LCRC. Periodismo Bilingüe en ETSU está dedicado a los temas que afectan a la comunidad hispana del noreste de Tennessee. Iniciado en 1999 como una separata del Erwin Record, el proyecto se ha publicado anualmente en toda la región con el apoyo de los periódicos Morristown Citizen Tribune, Rogersville Review, Mountain City Tomahawk, Johnson City Press, Kingsport Times-News, Bristol Herald Courier y Jonesborough Herald and Tribune.
